Personally I almost always service at the BMW dealer. They charge a premium but everything is almost always done correctly, and if not they have worked hard to fix it. They also detail the car and provide a loaner for months if needed. My dealer charges only 10 20% extra for parts and labour. Some dealers are charging double mine. For me, BMW has been a huge positive experience vs indie work.

I absolutely know what it looks like and how hard it is. Those folks don’t have an issue with you if you aren’t abusing the system (which it really doesn’t sound like you are), they have a problem with those who do and that they are as frustrated by the economy as you are.

In fact, the 2 door GTI was worse in the city, because the doors are so much longer, you can open them as easily in tight parking spaces. The 4 door has doors that open wider with less space next to you, and the doors are much smaller and lighter. So I would argue that while you THINK you want a 2 door, based on your requirements, if you came to me without any bias, I be recommending the 4 door to you over the 2 door.

OK, it might not use a Lamborghini V12, but it does let you fit a BMW V12! The early 5.0l from the late ’80s can be picked up cheaply and tuned up nicely to 400bhp+, and that will be enough for most! You’ll still need to source your gearbox, but most of the other components to complete this car are available from Parallel Designs, including at 6.0 VT and GT bodies. For a basic car using the Rover V8, expect to pay 25,000 and up and probably another 2000 for the V12 (with better gearbox, brakes and some engine mods.)

It would be a shame, yes it a big car, but it only had one season. It takes more than a season sometimes for a car to reach it stride.There exceptions, some vehicles are competitive out of the gate, the Mustang in V8 supercars in 2019 (although Dick Johnson Racing/Penske generally does not mess around when they can commit), but it takes a while.
